a lot of it has to do with this one horror writer who did a book about a clown monster that did horrible things to children

then that got turned into a movie

but even before that they're presumably human beings

maybe

slathered in makeup and making strange noises while wearing regrettable clothes

and if you're a little kid that's some scary shit

I mean my mom and my bro never cared too much either way but then they're goths who... also wear heavy makeup and make weird noises and have sometimes regrettable fashion choices

but the difference is that one of these groups is harmless and the other is FUCKING CLOWNS
