[Text] un: have_hat_will_travel, subject: Board Game Night?

Okay, so, we've obviously had some crap going down the last little bit. I've got one full-disclosure, and then one recommendation.

First, the full disclosure about my nature: I am a Succubus, a demon of lust and desire. No, I do not 'hunger' for the lifeforce of the living. Yes, that does mean I can influence people's minds in various ways. And Yes, that means I'm inherently strongly predisposed to both Chaotic and Evil tendencies; in my world, both of those are capitalized concepts with pretty clear definitions.

I have promised, and I'd like to keep to this promise, to not use my powers on people here unless they literally ask for it, or for my own self-defense. Also, I will be deeply worried about anyone who asks for being mentally influenced; I'm not exactly a therapist, but I'm pretty sure that isn't healthy.

That's not the important part of this post, though I'm sure I'll get questions about it.

Here's the important part: Who here, besides me, has gotten their hands on some board games? I don't have enough for a game night for the newly-expanded group at this station, and most of the ones I've gotten are... Weird, in various ways, but I'd like to work on what I can here.

Because right now, we need at least a useful semblance of camaraderie. And since I'm keeping to above-mentioned promise, that means teambuilding somehow or other, and this is my first crack at doing something about it.

Feel free to offer ideas in-person; room 21.

I have a chess set I could contribute for a game night.

Not quite a board game, but I found a dartboard and three sets of darts. I also have some video games.

I might have a deck of cards or two.

[clearly that is in fact the important thing here]

Afraid I've never heard of that one. And it's not a Triple Triad deck, either. (Not that anyone really plays that anymore.) It's just a regular set of playing cards, like one might use for poker or the like.

I wouldn't suggest certain competitive games, but I generally find them relaxing. Only two of them are multiplayer, but we could take turns at some of the others, and even RPGs are entertaining for the stories. They're sort of like movies, with the obstacles in the characters' way left for the player to figure out how to solve.

Never heard of that one either, sorry. You might have to show me.

Oh. Okay.

Board games... I haven't. But we can probably make one. Weird how?

...I don't suppose there's a Deck of Sixty in there.

Sounds like it might be fun. I'd presume there's a lot of games across worlds that don't fully translate.

You know, that isn't a terrible idea in general. Have a few different people write out rules for things like that exclusive to their worlds, I mean. Mightbe interesting, at minimum.

Mmm, I thought you might have been otherwise occupied in that period still.

Variant deck from around the fifth to seventh centuries, six suits of ten. I've got one but it's not really suitable for use for card games.

never heard of it

regrettably i couldn't catch up on everything, i was busy learning an entire common language and figuring out the new calendar system everyone changed on me.

Ugh, tell me about it. I'm lucky to get within a decade in the new one.

It has a resurgence in popularity between the ninth and eleventh centuries, but that was primarily as a fortune-telling tool. The one I have is from that period, and...

Well, see for yourself.

Oh, you have no idea. This is really just scratching the iceberg, we've had any number of ridiculous things.

They're a quite good magic focus and excellent for warping, actually, if you're interested I'll trade you for the crossbow.

It is the one on one variation, unfortunately, but provided people don't mind waiting on the board if they're interested in playing and there's already a game in progress...
