it caused a massive surge of racism and people thinking that any non-humans are abominations. magic was also pretty taboo for a long time. most of germany is still pretty bad about calling magic users witches and doing dumb shit like beating up non-humans for existing. japan just straight up does not accept non-humans into the country. it's literally a law there that you have to be human.
