Fascinating. I've heard of some insect toxins affecting the central nervous system, but among Earth species, it's typically plants, fungi, and bacteria that produce psychoactive chemicals.

Bees in particular rely more upon their ability to swarm and the pain caused by their stings, as well as the sensitizing effect multiple stings have on the immune system, to discourage theft of their food supplies.
