Look!

[Without further preamble, Prompto holds his phone camera back to show what he's got cradled in the crook of his other arm: an egg that looks bigger than a chicken itself, so he for sure didn't get it from inside the station.]

It's a chocobo egg! Chocobo, I just know it! And I did the trick with the shell and the light and there's a baby inside, it's alive!

[He sets the phone down standing up and hugs the egg carefully and happily to his chest, grinning fit to split his face.]

I'm gonna be the best. Chocomom. Ever! I gotta introduce them to the girls downstairs, catch me there if you wanna say hi to baby in person!

[And for those who prefer more action-based interaction, Prompto will, in fact, be in the floor 2 chicken room, his egg held protectively in his lap with an arm always around it while he feeds and chatters to the chickens.

He's also taped a note to the chicken room door:]

ADOPT A CHICKEN!

Chickens are cute and don't grow very big, unlike basilisks and cockatrices. We lay the eggs you eat for breakfast and cook with! So please don't think about cooking us! We love you! Give us names and love us, too!

[For a long moment after seeing the video, all Izunia can think is that it's too bad that Prompto never knew Ardyn before the Scourge and all of everything.

Then he shakes his head at the image and takes a deep breath, and makes his way down to where he's sure Prompto will be hanging out, if he isn't with Noctis. (Sometimes even when he is.)]

I see our little friends are starting to get fairly large.

At a certain point, an egg is an egg. They seem to be largely the same species.

[He bends to run a hand down the growing feathers of one of the larger chickens.]

I wonder if they have any other kind of bird they keep as livestock here?

[That video was probably one of the cutest things ever. Moving down to the chicken room, and seeing the note on the door, that settles in right up there next to it.

Astolfo gives knock to announce his presence, then pushes the door open anyway.]

If they do, I haven't seen them. Here in the station, I mean. I think that's something I'd notice.

[He rubs his egg softly and fondly as he talks, settled into a calmer happiness than the excitement of his video post.]

Maybe if we find more types, we can bring them back? People are gonna want to stop hunting around for meat eventually, probably.

[He waves him over, grinning, egg in his lap since he's sitting on the floor, as usual.]

You don't have chocobos in your world, right? Man, we guys from Eos are lucky.

Or the number of people here will simply exceed our capacity for it. The seagull should last us a while, though. I cleaned up most of the meat the others didn't want and packed it into the Armiger, if you're wondering.

[He settles down on the floor next to Prompto and gives the egg a wave.]

No idea what they are, some kind of large bird I'm guessing?

Yup! Oh, man, they're the best. [He pets the egg and then pretends to wave back for it.] This little guy or girl's gonna be about seven feet tall when they're all grown up, and the sweetest, smartest thing ever.

Oh, good! Means I can concentrate on taking care of baby instead of hunting. Mmm, maybe Noct can go instead.

You have them instead of horses, right? I guess you ride them too? Oh- if they're intelligent can you teach them commands?

True, but we hardly have enough meat to eat that every day, either.

[Ah, there is a small birb in his lap now.]

Haha, all of the above! They come when you whistle and help out in battle sometimes, even though I think it's better for them to run away and stay safe. Also, it's way faster to cross rough terrain riding a chocobo than it is on your feet. And they can swim! And glide a little, even with a passenger. And they're soooo great for curling up with around a campfire!

CHICKEN TIME

[ So Violet just came down here so she could have some dinner away from all the hustle and bustle of the rest of the station and she figured there wouldn't be anyone else down here. Which would be a solid plan, but Violet's eating bread, and there's chickens in here and it... well, it doesn't work out.

Which is how Violet Evergarden, Auto Memoir Doll and merciless tool of warfare has ended up herded into a corner by a whole flock of chickens who are all clucking and fluttering their wings busily at her to get her to please drop some of that bread, thank you. Poor Violet, on her part, actually looks quite perturbed by all this. ]

Excuse me... please let me through.

[ She's addressing them so politely as she tries to step over them, bless her heart. But every time she lifts her foot, the chickens flutter around even more excitedly and there's just nowhere to put it so she can actually move. She's trapped. Goodbye, Violet. ]

Girls? Where--oh.

[Oh no, Vi. Prompto doesn't want to laugh when she looks so disconcerted, but it's so funny. He wanders over, calm when she and the chickens aren't and smiling. Everything's gonna be daijoubu.]

They want your dinner. Come on, ladies, bread's not good for you. Don't you want some niiice, yummy veggies instead?

[He transfers Big Eggo into one arm so he can scatter some vegetable scraps for the chickens, leading them away from poor Miss Evergarden. Sure, veggies aren't as immediately exciting as bread, but when it's a contest between bread they can't have and veggies already on the floor, they soon cluck and run for the noms of least resistance.]

There you go, there's enough for everyone, you don't have to bully poor Vi. You okay, Vi?

[Awww, hello, borb. Prompto offers her a green.]

Salads are healthy. And they taste good if you put the right stuff in them. ...Noct might starve if we try to make him eat his veggies, though.

[ Violet stays stock still, back pressed into the corner until the last of the chickens have fluttered away to hoover up all that delicious salad. Once she seems assured that she isn't about to be pecked to death, she finally unglues herself from the wall, but her shoulders are still all wound up. She looks pretty spooked! ]

I'm uninjured. [ but she's also clutching her food close to her chest like one of the chickens might come flying at her to snatch it clean from her hands if she doesn't. ] Are they always this persistent?

[ They're so fluffy but their faces are so sharp... ]

[Somehow Jetshard's not even surprised that the kid's got his hands on an unhatched specimen of his favorite animal. The fact that he's just... carrying it around, loose, is a little concerning, though.

[ Naturally, Noct is here, and he's helping feed the chickens. Every so often, he looks at the egg. ]

[He trails off, then cuddles up more to the egg, even placing his cheek against the shell and sighing.]
