Look!

[Without further preamble, Prompto holds his phone camera back to show what he's got cradled in the crook of his other arm: an egg that looks bigger than a chicken itself, so he for sure didn't get it from inside the station.]

It's a chocobo egg! Chocobo, I just know it! And I did the trick with the shell and the light and there's a baby inside, it's alive!

[He sets the phone down standing up and hugs the egg carefully and happily to his chest, grinning fit to split his face.]

I'm gonna be the best. Chocomom. Ever! I gotta introduce them to the girls downstairs, catch me there if you wanna say hi to baby in person!

[And for those who prefer more action-based interaction, Prompto will, in fact, be in the floor 2 chicken room, his egg held protectively in his lap with an arm always around it while he feeds and chatters to the chickens.

He's also taped a note to the chicken room door:]

ADOPT A CHICKEN!

Chickens are cute and don't grow very big, unlike basilisks and cockatrices. We lay the eggs you eat for breakfast and cook with! So please don't think about cooking us! We love you! Give us names and love us, too!

You have them instead of horses, right? I guess you ride them too? Oh- if they're intelligent can you teach them commands?

Haha, all of the above! They come when you whistle and help out in battle sometimes, even though I think it's better for them to run away and stay safe. Also, it's way faster to cross rough terrain riding a chocobo than it is on your feet. And they can swim! And glide a little, even with a passenger. And they're soooo great for curling up with around a campfire!

Such versatile creatures! If we get any more eggs, I'd love to claim one.

[Whilst his Hippogriff is the most famous of his mounts in legend, he tamed a fair few other beasts. With the knowledge of new and strange beasts, he only wants to add to that number.]

I take it you've had a lot of experience with them?

We rented them a lot while we were traveling, so I know more about the grown-up versions. But we've seen plenty of baby chocobos, too! The guy we rent from, he asked us once to rescue a rare egg and called us as soon as she hatched. She was so cute...!

Hope so! It'd be a little easier if I could find the kind of greens chocobos eat, but I guess we can go look again or see if Bottom has gysahl seeds in stock.

They're picky eaters, huh?

Not so much! They like different kinds of chocobo greens. But they're not like chickens, they won't eat everything.

[Astolfo scoops a baby chick into his lap to have something to play with, gently stroking its peeping head.]

How long do you think we'll have to find some before that little guy hatches?

Honestly, no idea. That rare one we found only took a few days, but who knows when its mom actually laid it. I think it takes a month or two from the start...

Isn't there any way of finding out?

Not that I know of. ...But maybe that Kurama kid can help grow some greens with his magic, if we can't find any before it does!

Right? Wish we had access to handy magic like that back home. I bet Ignis would've had a field day if he could grow his own herbs. Haha, maybe literally!
