I understand it's been an eventful past few days, if I'm being very generous. And I know it's hardly my place to get involved in any of this, but... how exactly does one stay out of others' affairs when we're all stuck in close quarters?

Well. That was mostly a rhetorical question.

What I'd like to know is whether anyone at this station would be willing to help teach me to cook. I'm afraid I don't recognize most of what we have in store, and I'd rather not accept food from people I don't readily trust.

Furthermore, I don't suppose anyone else here would be willing to set up a sparring club of sorts, if one doesn't exist already? Some of my colleagues and I had the same idea back home, but I've no indication that there's such a thing here.

The cheese on all those pizzas made you sick, though, didn't it? Do you know if there's anything else you can't eat?

I'm fairly sure that it's just milk.

So you're lactose intolerant. That might make things a little bit harder, but we'll come up with something! If you give me some time to see what we've got in the pantry, I'll come up with a few easy meals for you and we can try making them together.

There were some grubs with peppers in the freezer?

Grubs.

My mother would never let me hear the end of it if she caught me eating something so unrefined, but... well, I like them.

Oh thank goodness.

For a second, you had me thinking we had an infestation.

I can see why that would be a concern, but they look more like the sort you'd find sold in street carts back home.

I see. Was there anything else in there you liked the look of?

[dragonmouth]

Several of the fruits and herbs in the gardens here. Pumpkin? Most of the other vegetables had a good look about them, too. Tea, coffee... I suppose the sheets of seaweed in the pantries could be used for something. There's also the shrimp and eggs, and I'd be willing to see what other meats we can use. I could even try fishing near the coast, even.

I've also tried to use what you call a "rice cooker", to little success.

We could start with a vegetable stir-fry then. That's simple enough and it'll get you used to the frying pan. And if you're having trouble with the rice cooker then we'll make a side dish of rice, too. I know it's a bit intimidating but once you start getting the hang of things, it'll be easy, I promise.

It's definitely easier when you've had a head start, but you sound like you're excited to learn. So I think you'll pick it all up quickly enough.

Nakari and Ama were the best at working with a limited spread of ingredients back home, but I haven't much memory of how they worked.

Well can you remember what sort of things they cooked? It might not taste exactly the same but if there's anything you really want to eat, I could try and work out a recipe.

I don't suppose we have the ingredients for a pumpkin and seafood curry.

I'll have to dig around but I think we just might! Give me a bit to work out exactly what we've got to work with before I give you a definite yes or no.

I don't want to make any demands that are terribly unreasonable.

I would enjoy a sparring club! Just practicing on your own too much can lead to bad habits.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure if we're going to get many more people interested, but there should be more than enough places on the station grounds to set up.

If you don't mind me asking, is there anything in particular you're interested in? I'm not so good with weapons that aren't a sword, so I know that perhaps I could stand for a bit of improvement.

That sounds most interesting. I wish I'd relied less on my sword myself, but... well, we have much to learn from each other.

We sure do! I don't really have any practice with things like guns or swords, so maybe we can teach each other a trick or two.

I was considering setting up some kind of basic video lessons, honestly, with all the difficulty people having been having.

Though given the technology level of some worlds, I feel as though the first video would have to be a tutorial on appliance usage.

As for sparring, there's a number of us who make use of a section of open ground immediately outside the station, but nothing formalized.
