In which Goro ALSO finds a thing.

[Goro's phone is propped up against something on the greenhouse level, recording him holding a sack the size of a small backpack. The sack has bits of sand stuck to it, but Goro himself is clean...if still looking slightly windswept.]

I hope nobody here is afraid of bees? I found a hive while I was out testing something for Up, and I'm planning on setting it up in the greenhouse so we can at least have a little honey. If anyone here has any idea how to extract it without getting stung, that is...

[He puts the sack down on the floor, opening first, and lifts it up. Somehow, this results in an artificial beehive sitting where he had the bag, despite the former being far larger than the latter. The hive doors are closed, so the bees can't get out...yet.]

If nobody objects, I'll open it up later today.

How big are the bees???

Maybe about 15mm or so. Not especially unusual for honey bees.

They shouldn't. As I said, this is a typical size for the species.

They're not poisonous? Or venomous or whatever I can never remember the difference.

Poison is ingested, venom is injected.

They have a local irritant that some people are allergic to, but ordinarily a sting just causes minor to moderate pain. They also don't sting very often unless they feel threatened or are defending their hive, since they die afterwards.

The only way that might happen is if someone is severely allergic and careless around the hive.

As long as they don't get any bigger or meaner, I guess it's okay with me. (一。一;;） Is everything always so small where everyone else is from?

Not everything. My world has quite a few large animals, but insects are typically fairly small. Their biological structures wouldn't be viable at larger sizes without magic, and I'm not aware of any inherently supernatural species that exist where I'm originally from.

This isn't my first time in a world other than my own. I didn't see much of the one I ended up in before this, but I am aware of at least one other world where yokai exist.

Also yeesh, dude, sure sounds like you've led an interesting life. (ﾟｰﾟ;)

It's a sort of magical being. It doesn't have a direct translation in Western languages, but the closest would be demon. It's still a little inaccurate, though, as Western cultures tend to use that word exclusively for evil creatures. Many yokai are simply mischievous, or even benevolent.

And, interesting is certainly one word for it. I don't complain too much about recent events, though, since I've met some wonderful people thanks to them.

Oh yeah we have daemons, I know what those are. Only the really, really bad kind though. I've never heard of them just playing, like, pranks, let alone HELPING anyone. They come out when it's dark and well. Kill everyone pretty much.

But you're right, I think I know what you mean. I've seen a lot of things and met a lot of people I wouldn't have otherwise, even though everything's been pretty awful for a long time now.

That sounds in line with the Western idea. That's why I don't consider the term a proper translation. Certainly there are some yokai that are actively malevolent, but it may be more accurate to compare them to stories of fae. Alien to humanity, certainly, and often capricious, but it would be a mistake to generalize about them.

Perhaps you could consider this a sort of break. Especially if Charm is correct and the Fissures return us to the same time we came from.
