[Without further preamble, Prompto holds his phone camera back to show what he's got cradled in the crook of his other arm: an egg that looks bigger than a chicken itself, so he for sure didn't get it from inside the station.]

It's a chocobo egg! Chocobo, I just know it! And I did the trick with the shell and the light and there's a baby inside, it's alive!

[He sets the phone down standing up and hugs the egg carefully and happily to his chest, grinning fit to split his face.]

I'm gonna be the best. Chocomom. Ever! I gotta introduce them to the girls downstairs, catch me there if you wanna say hi to baby in person!

[And for those who prefer more action-based interaction, Prompto will, in fact, be in the floor 2 chicken room, his egg held protectively in his lap with an arm always around it while he feeds and chatters to the chickens.

He's also taped a note to the chicken room door:]

ADOPT A CHICKEN!

Chickens are cute and don't grow very big, unlike basilisks and cockatrices. We lay the eggs you eat for breakfast and cook with! So please don't think about cooking us! We love you! Give us names and love us, too!

[In a low whisper, like he's afraid to find out:] Do people come from eggs?

[A raised eyebrow.] They don't. They're not Pokemon, after all.

...Your world is biologically super confusing.

Where I come from, sheep and dogs and cats and humans--they're all mammals, so they give. You know. Live birth. Birds and reptiles and everything else come from different kinds of eggs.

[...]

Except daemons. But they're different.

...what? [He boggles at hearing that information.] ...really?

[There's a pause as he considers.] So...mammals and reptiles can't interbreed in your world?

Definitely not, no. D...different species can't interbreed, like, at all, usually.

[Sometimes members of the same species have different names, and sometimes crazy mutant hybrids happen naturally or through mad science, but that's Different.]

Yours can?

[He nods seriously.] It's the only way for some species of Pokemon to learn moves that purebreeds wouldn't naturally learn. I'm not a Breeder either, so I don't know that much about all the pairings. [He pauses.] Except Skitty and Wailord, because everyone's heard about those.

Do I want to have heard about those?

[Do it. Tell him. You know you want to.]

it's probably not as bad as it seems at first. Wailord are extremely large, true, but they're also light enough to float in the air. And there haven't been any stories of Skitty ending up crushed by their partners.

Dude. Please. Say no more. I got the picture somewhere around "ending up crushed."

...alright then. But yes, as I said, all those pairings produce eggs. [A slight shrug.] Even the Legendaries once came from eggs, themselves.

Didn't you say those were, like, your gods? Your gods come from eggs?

[Eggs are truly the most powerful of shapes.]

[The true shape of the universe...?]

They do. Perhaps Arceus was trying to make all Pokemon in His image, in some way.

Wow. ...I think our gods just come from space. Maybe. Actually, I'm not sure where I got that impression? I really don't know a lot about the Astrals except that they're enormous and terrifying up close.

[stormkingofshepherds]

...some of the Legendaries are like that, too. [Such as Arceus, Zygarde, Kyurem...] But there's others that are closer in scale to humans-mostly the more minor ones, I guess, who aren't in charge of as large a domain.

Oh! We have some like that, where they're not part of the Hexatheon but they're still pretty powerful. And then there are Messengers, too. Like, Messengers from the gods. Do you have guys like that? I guess they'd probably be Pokémon, too.

[stormkingofshepherds]

Do you mean sent, or empowered by them? Generally if the Legendaries have messages to send, they rely on the humans they have trusted with some of their power. Most of them can send dreams to their Blessed, at least.

That doesn't hurt them? The Blessed, I mean. Noct used to get these headaches...

[stormkingofshepherds]

...normally, it shouldn't. But...depending on the strength of the connection, some Blessed can feel their patron's pain. And the God-Hunters were aiming to kill Legendaries...I'm sure they intended to cause pain for the Blessed as well.

Man, that's so... Are there people to protect them? Your world's Blessed people?

[Prompto doesn't even go here, but he wants to protect them.]

Well, most of them have their own Pokemon. As well as the powers they gain from being Blessed-usually a weaker version of their patron's own power. And they do have support from whoever else worships their patrons, as well. [Which is quite a lot, usually.]

Oh. Well, that's good, at least. Nothing like a dedicated guard, though, huh? Even with all that support, that sounds... it sounds kind of hard. All that power and responsibility without, like... people dedicated to taking care of you when you can't.

[stormkingofshepherds]

...not really. Some Blessed don't even make their status obvious. They simply continue their journeys as Trainers while helping solve problems in their patron's domain. Although...I suppose Quan's Hope was closer to an organization with a guard of some sort. But even then, they were spread thin cleaning up after the God-Hunters.

Oh, so people don't always know. Huh.

[He runs his hand down the back of his skull, imagining how their lives might have been different if Noct and Lady Lunafreya still had their god-given roles without having been public, political figures. If they were just normal, like Noct always wanted to be.]

That sounds really nice, actually. Traveling around the world, helping people--and Pokémon, of course. [He smiles briefly.] Kind of like an open-world adventure game.

For some, it's a matter between them and their patron. But it's true that there's a lot of allure to the trainer life. Although I think the minimum age to get a license could be increased, or at least younger trainers should require sponsors of some sort to travel with them. [He rubs his forehead slowly.] Just because they have Pokemon doesn't make them invincible, and kids tend to have poorer judgement about what they can handle.

Wait, how young can people be before they go adventuring?
