[Without further preamble, Prompto holds his phone camera back to show what he's got cradled in the crook of his other arm: an egg that looks bigger than a chicken itself, so he for sure didn't get it from inside the station.]

It's a chocobo egg! Chocobo, I just know it! And I did the trick with the shell and the light and there's a baby inside, it's alive!

[He sets the phone down standing up and hugs the egg carefully and happily to his chest, grinning fit to split his face.]

I'm gonna be the best. Chocomom. Ever! I gotta introduce them to the girls downstairs, catch me there if you wanna say hi to baby in person!

[And for those who prefer more action-based interaction, Prompto will, in fact, be in the floor 2 chicken room, his egg held protectively in his lap with an arm always around it while he feeds and chatters to the chickens.

He's also taped a note to the chicken room door:]

ADOPT A CHICKEN!

Chickens are cute and don't grow very big, unlike basilisks and cockatrices. We lay the eggs you eat for breakfast and cook with! So please don't think about cooking us! We love you! Give us names and love us, too!

If I were to name one of the chickens after something I was reminded of, then we would have two Promptos here at the station, which has the potential to cause confusion.

[Prompto opens his mouth, but no words come out, just an indignant, undignified squeak. Speechless, he looks at her, looks at the chickens, points to the chickens, points to himself, and then whines, covers his face, and flops dramatically onto his back.]

Viiiii, you're killing me here.

[His hair does not look like a kingatrice butt!]

[ There he go... Violet just tilts her head. ]

Did I say something wrong?

[ She has the decency to sound a touch troubled at least, but she pretty clearly doesn't see what the problem is, despite having just killed a man in cold blood without even blinking. ]

It's fashion! Fashion. Why's everyone gotta compare my hairstyle to animals' butts all the time?

[He raises his hands to gesture emphatically in the air, then lets his arms fall limply to the ground again. After a moment, one of the chickens hops up to roost peacefully on his chest.]

So the resemblance was not intentional?

[ She... she thought he just really, really liked chickens... ]

[-9999 HP. FINISH HIM.]

I never even heard of chickens before I got here. We don't have them on Eos.

So the resemblance is merely an accident...

[ She stares at him for a moment, laying there like Violet's just put a knife into him and then her lips purse a bit in a way that makes her look concerned. ]

Is it an unhappy accident?

[After a beat, he sits up.]

Vi, nobody wants to look like an animal's rear end. Even if the animal's reeeeeeeeeally cute.

... ah.

[ Her brow creases and her her mouth tightens into a little line. That means she's gone and inadvertently insulted him, by the sounds of it.

She can't give him a proper bow of apology while they're both on the ground like this, but she can neatly fold her hands in her lap and lower her head. ]

Then... I sincerely apologize for making the comparison. My intent wasn't to offend, but that was the outcome and I'm sorry.

[He sighs.]

Aww, don't worry about it. Noct makes the same joke all the time. Except he calls it a chocobo butt, since it's yellow. And since we don't have chickens.

[Prompto thinks about it a little longer, then leans towards her, lowering his voice plaintively.]

Does it really look that much like a chicken butt?

[ There is a very long, very telling pause.

Because Violet can't lie, but she also can't tell him the truth. Because the truth obviously caused him some measure of distress but Violet Evergarden has never told a lie once in her entire life and she's not entirely sure how to actually go about doing it.

So she stares at Prompto, until the silence grows almost deafening and then; ]

I would prefer not to answer.

[ (critical hit sound effect) ]

Awwwwwwwww, but it's so boring when I leave it down!

[Deftly avoiding any chickens, Prompto rolls onto his front and kickies his leggies, whining like a child. Eventually, he heaves another huge baby sigh, dropping his head onto his arms.]

I just can't win. Why does style have to be so hard?

[ SO THIS... IS THE WEIGHT OF CREATION... ]

Are there any alternate styles that don't resemble a chicken quite so much?

[ you can stop reminding him of that ANY TIME, Violet ]

Is your hair long enough for braids, for example?

Huh? No. I don't think so?

[He picks his face up again and runs his thumb and forefinger doubtfully along the long lock of his hair in the front.]

Even if it was a really skinny braid, I don't think it would stay. Right?

If you fixed it with pins and elastics perhaps, but even then, it would be a very small braid.

[ Hmmm... Violet squints her eyes at him for a moment. ]

I have a coworker back home that you bear a resemblance to. Perhaps his hairstyle would suit you?

Hm? How does he do it?

[Is Benedict's hair even substantially different from Prompto's?]

Like so.

[ It's a little hard to demonstrate, given that Violet's hair is so much longer than Benedict's or Prompto's but she can do her best. Combing her fingers through her bangs, she parts them and then sweeps half to one side. Then after a moment of consideration, she fiddles with them for a moment to let a lock of hair fall loosely over her eye and then seems satisfied with just holding it in place. ]

... it looks very different on him, of course.

Huh. It's kind of like I already have mine. I guess without the part I style up, though.

[He runs his fingers through said mating plumage, then sighs and ruffles it free of its careful upward sweep. It ends up looking even more like fluffy chick down for a moment before he combs it aside and down, the way he used to have it. Or the way he has it, still, when it rains.]

See? I used to wear it like this when I was in high school.

[ Violet takes in this new 'do with a surprising amount of stony-faced seriousness. Apparently this is Serious Enough Business that she needs to put a fair bit of thought into it. ]

Yes, I see. In terms of downplaying the resemblance to a chicken, it's an improvement.

[ She tilts her head. ]

Why change it after high school?

[ whatever 'high school' is ]

Well, I just... wanted to look different. You know? Show off the 'new me.' And my school was kind of strict about appearances, so I could never do anything really radical with my hair or my clothes. I think the most I ever got away with was rolling up my sleeves.

[Which is a personal tragedy for Prompto "Gun Show" Argentum.]

Getting new outfits, styling up my hair... I guess it was freeing, in a way? I always wanted to do something to stand out a little more, and I finally could without getting in trouble for it. Who wants to always be the same, right?

[ Violet's not entirely sure she understands. She's never cared much for what clothes she'd worn or what her hair had been like and even when presented with her work uniform and for all the fuss the others had made, she hadn't been particularly moved by it.

So many little things Prompto concerns himself with that Violet has never really put much consideration into. It's interesting. She really does have a lot to learn, doesn't she? ]

In that case... why not restyle yourself as another "new me" during your time here?

Well...

[He pauses for a long time, and when he answers, it's kind of like a revelation to himself, too.]

I kinda like the me I am now? [Incredible.] I guess I can think about a different hairstyle, though. I don't always want to be known as the chicken guy.
