Hi, I'm Bai Lin. I have a question. I've got that most of us are from different worlds. It's weird, but any time I talk to someone it becomes more and more obvious.

But I'm noticing a trend from talking to you all.

How many people here DON'T come from places where a nuclear war destroyed most of the world's population before you were born?

Just managed to avert that future where I come from. Supposedly there was some bigger threat on the horizon, but that's a problem for another Junpei.

The nukes were going to wipe out three fourths of the population, while apparently, the religious fanatic that would've died in either the nuclear fallout or the preceding pandemic will take out all eight billion people on Earth, if someone doesn't find another way to stop him.

I'm basically a live-in babysitter now, and believe me, that's way more physically and intellectually challenging. And about a thousand times more rewarding.

Depends on the kid. Some are sweet, some are snotty hellions from the fifth circle of the underworld. And all of them need a hundred and ten percent of you.

...Okay maybe it can be hard, but I still think it'd be worth doing. There's a lot of kids that needed help where I come from.

...Post-apocalyptic world, right? Yeah, I can imagine. There any kind of social infrastructure to speak of, get them taken care of...?

Not unless they're really lucky. I was an unwanted child, actually. My birth parents donated me to the temple to work for them.

It wasn't a bad life, for the most part, but I think we should be able to do better for these kids.

I was a bastard. They figured it would be better to not have me around, reminding them of past infidelities, and the temple always needs more people.

Honestly, if you ask me who my dad was the first person that comes to mind is the old abbot. I've only met my biological parents like once and it was super awkward.

I can imagine. I'd've made it way more than awkward for them, if that was the story they'd told me.

I can't really get myself worked up over them enough to care. They're just not part of my life.
