Hi, I'm Bai Lin. I have a question. I've got that most of us are from different worlds. It's weird, but any time I talk to someone it becomes more and more obvious.

But I'm noticing a trend from talking to you all.

How many people here DON'T come from places where a nuclear war destroyed most of the world's population before you were born?

I'm only somewhat familiar with nuclear anything, but there certainly hasn't been any nuclear war. Or at least none that got past the planning stages, thanks to some specialists willing to brave Old Hell.

What is a "nuclear war"?

I'm not actually 100% sure, is the thing? All we know is that there used to be a civilization before ours that was much greater. They walked on the moon and built cities with millions of people. Then there was a war with weapons called "nuclear bombs" that could destroy entire cities in one blow.

It was a long time before I was born, though.

...Not nuclear war, I'm only even vaguely familiar with the term. The Astral War left much of the planet a wreck during my mortal life - outright war between and against the gods, particularly the god of fire, I can summarize the details but it will take a while.

And then on the far end of my life there was the Night [you can hear the capital] which lasted for ten years and I imagine devastated most of the planet, but I didn't see the end of that, technically.

My species has a long and colorful history of committing war atrocities, but to my knowledge we've never used nuclear weapons against our own people on any significant scale.

Has your world managed to recover? There has been only a single incident in my world when nuclear weapons were used and the results were overwhelming enough to end the war that was raging on during the time.

It was about eighty years before I was born, but older folks say the early days after the war were much much worse.

My home valley wasn't too badly effected, at least, but beyond there was a whole lot of wasteland.

But I'm pretty sure the Material Plane of my world hasn't had much like that? Just. Very vicious orcish armies.

It's actually kind of a relief that I have to keep explaining it, if it means other worlds don't even know what it IS.

Unfortunately I don't exactly know either. All I know is old books say that there used to be a might civilization that covered the entire world, and that the people could fly in the sky and walk on the moon. But then there was a big war that used nuclear bombs, which could level entire cities in one blow. The world we live in now is just the tiny sliver of people who survived, eking out a living among ruins.

They say nuclear bombs are so terrible they poison the very Earth, and that anyone who even GOES there will get radiation sickness and probably die.

My understanding is that it was an environmental disaster, but I'm uncertain what could have caused so much harm. I suppose there could have been a war.
