I know one can be furious with someone they care about and yet not detest them. Difficult, but not unthinkable. But is it possible to ever learn to stop hating someone, when that anger is justified yet supposedly built on the foundation of a misunderstanding?

If you're asking yourself this question it seems there's an answer you want to here.

For myself, I think it's entirely possible. It would just take time or some extraordinary circumstance.

Less a particular answer and more seeking input. If it's possible, how to do it, if it should even be done.

It seems an insurmountable task, as it stands now.

If you think you would be happier, than you should try to find a way to combat your hatred. If you don't think it would make a difference it may prove to be more painful than accepting the status quo.

But nothing is insurmountable without effort, which is just about the only way to overcome anything. What that effort requires will depend on who you hate and why.

Someone I cared about did something unthinkable. But I no longer know that it was something done out of spite or jealousy, and instead was perhaps the end result of a cavalcade of mistakes made by both of us.

Does it being a mistake make the situation any more bearable? Or do you simply think that it should change things?

I think the memory of it would feel a little less painful if it wasn't done maliciously, should that be the truth at all.

Memories as old as yours cannot be changed so easily, but it's possible it may bring you some closure if you can find it in yourself to believe the truth over centuries of this misconception.
